Reflections on Life, Investing, India at 75, and Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing

One of the best books I have read on living a life of purpose is the one from the world-renowned innovation expert Clayton M. Christensen, who developed the theory of ‘disruptive innovation’, which has been called the most influential business idea of the early 21st century. In fact, Christensen introduced ‘disruption’ in his 1997 book The Innovator’s Dilemma, which was supposedly the only business book that Steve Jobs had on his bookshelf.

Drawing upon his business research, he offered a series of guidelines for finding meaning and happiness in life. He used examples from his own experiences to explain how high achievers can all too often fall into traps that lead to unhappiness.

[Transcript] The One Percent Show: Prof. Sanjay Bakshi

Print this as a PDF. Please do not share outside your membership.

Professor Sanjay Bakshi is the Managing Partner at ValueQuest capital. He is one of India’s best recognized finance professors who taught security analysis, behavioral finance and business valuation at MBA Gurgaon for 20 years. And currently he’s distinguished adjunct professor at finance at FLAME University Pune. Prof. Bakshi received his MSc in Economics from London School of Economics in Political Science, and B.Com Honors from the University of Delhi. He’s also a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

The American historian Henry Adams said, and I quote, “A teacher affects eternity. He can never tell where his influence stops.” Prof. Bakshi has been that teacher to 1000s of students over the past two decades, and I have also been fortunate, even if an indirect beneficiary of his teachings. And so asking questions to him today makes me the most nervous I have been on the show so far.
