My Notes on Warren Buffett’s 2017 Letter to Shareholders

Warren Buffett recently released his 2017 letter to shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway. As outlined on the first page of the letter, Berkshire’s share price has increased by, hold your breath, 2,404,748% over the last 53 years.

The big idea worth noting here is that the annualized return Berkshire’s stock has earned for its shareholders to achieve such magnificent result over 53 years is less than 21% – something people basking in the limelight of current bull run would discard as too less!

Anyways, I have prepared some notes on Buffett’s 2017 letter. Click on the image below or click here to download the document.

    Vishal,

Thanks for sharing your notes. Very valuable insights (and love your handwriting)!

I am curious about your comment regarding the absence of a low-cost index fund India.

Are you implying that the cost of Indian Index Funds (vs. let’s say Vanguard) is a concern or that we do not have an S&P 500 equivalent Index Fund in India? If it’s the former, isn’t it likely that as the AUM of the fund grows it will lower the fund’s expense ratio over time? If it’s later, what’d be a good (or rather an ideal) index fund in Indian context from your point of view?

    Thanks, Rahul

    Hi,

i love your monthly stock analyses. I bought indigo after going a little deeper (albeit their engine issue and grounding aircraft), for the long run. I would love to have a good discussion board with other SN members to discuss other equities for long run investments in the indian markets.
